The North Kingstown School District Start Times and Transportation Advisory Committee met on September 28, 2026, to review consultant Fred Hazi’s redistricting analysis and discuss next steps. Hazi described the use of 85 parcel-based planning units, student address and grade data, enrollment projections through 2034, and school capacity estimates. The analysis indicates overall district capacity is adequate, though Hamilton is projected to exceed the committee’s 95% utilization benchmark and boundary adjustments may be needed; the consultant said a new facility does not appear necessary. Members discussed enrollment-data discrepancies, proposed housing, grade-level and specialized-program capacity, and preserving elementary-to-middle-school pathways. Hazi plans to develop a scenario for committee review, with revisions informed by committee and public feedback; the committee discussed making maps and scenarios available online for comment.

The committee also reviewed a draft survey on school start times and transportation, including questions about before- and after-school care and whose responses should be distinguished. Public commenters asked for transparent scenario development, clear capacity targets, timely community engagement, and consideration of transportation impacts. Bus-routing software may be used later to compare route duration and estimated operating costs, but no spending decision or procurement action was taken. The only motion recorded was to move public comment to the end of the agenda; the next meeting was set for October 13.
