The RPS Board of Education Facilities & Operations Committee met on September 29, 2026, to review a facilities master plan prepared with MP Planning and Studio JADE. The recommended short-term A2 plan prioritizes mission-critical work over the first five to seven years, including building-envelope, electrical, and HVAC improvements and air conditioning at elementary schools. Longer-term options included adding capacity at Veterans Park, expanding pre-K, and potentially consolidating or closing schools, including Branchville or Scotland. The committee discussed whether using Cadence Academy space is feasible, the cost of keeping Branchville operational as swing space, enrollment utilization, and the need for further programmatic and architectural study. Members emphasized that the Cadence option is a consultant recommendation, not a board directive, and that town partners would need to consider it. By a unanimous show of hands, the committee agreed to bring the plan to the full board for discussion; this was not approval of a contract or expenditure. Members requested additional detail on Branchville swing-space costs and a clear explanation of the plan’s rationale and the effects of underinvestment.
