Body

Date
September 29, 2026
Jurisdiction
State & Local
The Griffin-Spalding County Schools Board of Education held its first required public hearing on the FY2027 millage rate on September 29, 2026. Staff explained that reassessment of existing property affects the district’s tax digest and requires public hearings and advertising. The current rate is 16.393 mills and the calculated rollback rate is 15.861 mills; the district is not recommending a rate increase, although reassessment requires the change to be advertised as a 3.35% tax increase. The presentation estimated about $43.6 million in tax revenue at the current rate, roughly $200,000 (0.5%) more than the prior year, and noted that one mill is worth approximately $2.66 million.
The board adopted the agenda and adjourned; it did not vote on a millage rate at this hearing. Two additional hearings were planned, followed by a board recommendation and county commission ratification. No procurement activity, contract awards, or purchasing decisions were identified.
