GSCS Board of Education Mileage Rate Hearing 2

Griffin-Spalding County Schools Board of Education public hearing number two on the proposed 2027 millage rate was held September 29, 2026. The board reviewed the district’s tax digest and the effect of reassessments and exemptions, including the increase in senior homestead exemptions from $613 million to $835 million. The rollback rate was presented as 15.861 mills, compared with the existing rate of 16.393 mills. Keeping the existing rate would require advertising a 3.35% property-tax increase attributable to reassessment; the presentation noted that the board was not recommending an increase in the millage rate. The board had adopted the FY2027 budget on May 26, covering the general fund, special revenue, school nutrition, debt service, and capital projects.
