🚨 Public Safety 🏗️ Construction & Infrastructure Grants & Funding Physical Infrastructure

The Coconino County Board of Supervisors special session on September 29, 2026, approved a $6,500 funding agreement with Glen Canyon Conservancy for the 2026 Navajo Bridge Star Party, funded from supervisors’ Community Initiative Funds. The Health District accepted a $5,000 Burton Family Foundation grant for the Williams Senior Service Nutrition Program and approved the corresponding FY2027 budget adjustment. It also authorized an application for a $1.3 million DOJ opioid and substance-use grant to support housing, medication bridge prescriptions, case management, and peer-support staff; the funding is contingent on an award. The Jail District approved a FY2027 cost-sharing addendum with Coconino Community College for its detention academy, estimated at $41,760. No contract awards or competitive solicitations were discussed. Revisions to the County’s purchasing-card, travel, and fraud/theft/waste/abuse policies were tabled until a future meeting when the full Board could participate.

The Board also heard a presentation on Flagstaff’s proposed public-safety ballot measures: a 0.5-cent sales tax expected to raise about $18.2 million annually for 15 years and a $40 million bond for facilities and equipment. The measures, which would fund staffing and capital needs across fire, police, emergency management, and airport services, were presented for discussion only; no County funding action was taken. Other business included unanimous approval of proclamations for Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the George Willey Sr. Memorial Twin Arrows Stand Down, appointment of Tammy McBride to the Workforce Development Board, election-preparation updates, and discussion of the local workforce plan; no vote on the plan was recorded.
