The Hancock County Commissioners’ special meeting and public hearing on the proposed 2027 county budget was held September 29, 2026. Commissioners discussed budget changes for the Hancock site, including a proposed $250,000 construction reserve for renovations intended to prepare space for a tenant and generate rental income. They discussed using $50,000 as a projected revenue estimate; the potential lease was described as a 15-year arrangement, but project costs and terms were not finalized. Commissioners noted that any construction procurement would still need to follow the applicable bidding or RFQ process. The Hancock site’s proposed Department 22 budget also included discussion of roughly $55,000 shifted from IT, about $22,000 for maintenance, and $9,000 for insurance. RCC console/equipment costs were debated as largely one-time expenses and were to be excluded or deferred from the proposed budget at this stage.

Commissioners also discussed whether to include compensation for an employee assigned supervisory duties in the District Attorney’s office; no amount was settled. A motion to refer the 2027 county budget, as amended based on the meeting’s discussion, to the Budget Advisory Committee passed. Separately, commissioners approved the 2027–2028 Unorganized Territory budget as proposed for submission to the state. No public comments were made.
