The City of Fort Worth City Council held a work session on September 29, 2026. Procurement-related discussion focused on the convention center expansion’s second phase, valued at $66 million within a two-phase, $71 million project. Because Phase 2 was procured through an option in the original contract, the city’s 30% small business enterprise (SBE) requirement was not included. Staff described plans to identify eligible firms and available subcontracting scopes, conduct targeted outreach, add SBE requirements to remaining bid packages, and track participation; a council member requested a follow-up on results. Staff also reported that a renewable natural gas facility at the Southeast Landfill is proceeding with project partner Aria Energy and has generated about $1.3 million in development fees for the city. No contract award or spending vote was identified.

Other project and funding updates included a plan to seek potential federal funding for reconstruction and pedestrian/bicycle improvements along the McCart Avenue corridor; open-space acquisitions supported by bond funding, with properties undergoing due diligence; and a contractor designing and building trails at Broadcast Hill, with completion targeted for late fall. Staff discussed proposed zoning standards for temporary concrete batch plants, including a 100-foot buffer from homes and schools and limiting them to K zoning. The work session also covered a proposed 2027 council schedule, a city property sale with no price stated, and other policy and operational updates. No motions or votes related to procurement were reported.
