Logan City Council’s special meeting on 6 October 2026 considered a proposed temporary local planning instrument (TLPI No. 1/2026) updating flood planning policy and mapping, and proposed changes to the Logan Flood Portal. Council endorsed the TLPI and resolved to submit it and the updated flood risk assessment to the Queensland Government for consideration and approval. The changes focus planning overlay mapping on the 1% annual exceedance probability flood event; staff estimated the mapped property count would fall from about 45,000 to about 17,000, with more than 25,000 properties removed from the overlay. Council also endorsed authority for officers to make minor minister-requested changes and requested a later report seeking adoption if the state approves the instrument.

Council referred the cost of preparing and implementing the TLPI to the 2026–27 budget amendment process, and referred preparation of a strategic flood risk management plan for consideration in a future budget; no dollar amounts, contract awards, or other procurement activity were identified. A proposed motion to implement the Flood Portal changes failed 5–7, and the matter was deferred to an ordinary council meeting for further consideration of how the 1-in-2,000-year event appears in property reports. The council also agreed to table a relevant state-government letter concerning flood mapping.
