The Syosset Central School District and Syosset Public Library held a public information and feedback meeting on September 29, 2026, about a proposed partnership to renovate the district-owned Woodbury School as a satellite library and community space. The building has been vacant since 2007. The proposal would support library programs and meeting space while also allowing district uses such as staff professional development and student field trips. H2M conducted the feasibility study and developed preliminary plans; each organization’s board had previously committed about $25,000 toward the study.

The estimated project cost is approximately $19.1 million. The district is considering contributing $3.5 million from its capital reserve, with the remaining $15.6 million financed through a proposed 15-year bond at an estimated 4.25% interest rate. The presentation estimated average annual debt service of about $1.43 million and an additional library tax of roughly $120 per year for a home with a median value of $850,000. No spending or procurement vote was taken. If the proposal advances, both boards would need to approve resolutions, the parties would establish an intermunicipal agreement, and at least two ballot propositions would need to pass. Construction could begin in the 2028–29 school year, with occupancy estimated for 2029; public feedback is being collected before further decisions.
