The St. Francis Area Schools Board held its regular meeting on September 28, 2026. The main spending-related action was approval of the preliminary property tax levy at the maximum amount allowed by law for taxes payable in 2027; the motion passed 7–0. The district must submit the levy by October 7, with final certification scheduled for December 14. The presentation said general-fund and debt-service levies decreased, while the community education levy increased 8% with census growth. The transcript did not provide a reliable total levy amount. The board also heard that the district is phasing in replacements of aging nutrition-services walk-in freezers and coolers, with St. Francis Elementary planned for next summer and the high school the following year; no purchase or contract award was presented for approval. A tennis-court lease levy was briefly mentioned as having a lower impact, with further discussion planned after the elections.
Other discussion included a request to support a legislative change allowing bus drivers to train on public roads, updates on nutrition-program staffing and meal-service requirements, and an informational presentation on a proposed state constitutional amendment that could change school funding distributions. The consent agenda was approved, and policy 208 received a first reading. No vendor selections, RFPs, or other contract awards were identified.
