Law Committee Meeting - September 30, 2026

At its September 30, 2026 meeting, the Albany County Legislature’s Law Committee approved a request to authorize the Public Defender’s Office to enter into an agreement with Axon Enterprise, Inc. for digital evidence storage and management, for a term running October 1, 2026, through December 31, 2034. The agreement will replace and consolidate two existing systems and is supported by a New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services defense-for-discovery grant. The committee approved the item by motion. An agreement with Legends Global regarding operations was tabled; no contract amount was stated for either agreement.

The committee also advanced a proposed e-bike and scooter local law with a favorable recommendation after discussing helmet requirements, enforcement, education, and permitted use of the Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail. A veterans’ property-tax exemption amendment also received a favorable recommendation; members discussed the lack of a fiscal-impact estimate, and staff offered to provide an estimate of the potentially eligible population. No specific dollar amounts were provided for the tax exemption. Another agenda item was tabled because its sponsor was absent.
