BET Regular Meeting 10/01/2026

The Oklahoma County Budget Evaluation Team (BET) regular meeting was held October 1, 2026. The team approved the September 9 and September 21 minutes and received the Detention Center financial and operational update. The center reported that it does not expect to need additional funds this year; staffing was reported at 363 employees, with 22 cadets in the hiring pipeline. Oklahoma City had paid its July and August contract payments. The team also discussed workers’ compensation projections and was told the county expects to maintain the $1 million cash balance required for self-insurance without additional budgeted funds.

Most of the discussion concerned employee-benefit costs and funding. Paid claims were about 25% above the prior fiscal year, and staff cited an estimated $3 million need for the September supplement, while noting that approximately $100,000 in prior appropriations was still being traced. Potential employee and employer premium increases and prescription-formulary changes were discussed, but no rate or funding decision was made; staff will provide further analysis for a follow-up meeting, anticipated the following week. The team also approved the proposed 2027 meeting schedule change moving July 2 to July 6, subject to availability, with the full schedule to return if that date is unavailable. No contract award, solicitation, vendor selection, or other procurement action was identified.
