Commission on Equity - September 28, 2026

The City of Lacey Commission on Equity met on September 28, 2026. Commissioners approved the agenda, prior meeting minutes, and consent items; the motion carried. The commission received an informational update on phase two of the city’s utility-box art project. Artists of any age may submit original designs from October through December 30, and each selected artist may earn $300. The commission is tentatively scheduled to review submissions in January and recommend designs for City Council approval, with installation anticipated in May or June. No action was required at this meeting. Commissioners requested the presentation, deadlines, outreach flyer, and a map showing proposed wrap locations to help publicize the opportunity and assess placement.

The commission also discussed the recent regional equity meeting and possible future collaboration, including sharing best practices and hearing directly from youth and community groups. Members discussed priorities such as affordable housing, homelessness and youth services, city workforce equity, and outreach to marginalized communities. Staff reported that an affordable-housing presentation is planned for November 30 and a grants-finalists presentation for October 26; no grant awards or funding decisions were made. The commission reviewed plans for upcoming community forums and received an update that the equity strategic-plan report is nearly complete. No other procurement activity was identified.
