Planning & Zoning 09/15/2026

The Town of Southington Planning & Zoning Commission held a meeting on September 15, 2026, where they discussed two major site plan applications. The first was a modification for 20 Spring Street to renovate an existing commercial building into two restaurant spaces with a drive-through, parking reconfiguration, and site improvements. The commission reviewed engineering comments, parking adjustments, traffic concerns, and landscaping proposals, ultimately tabling the application pending further revisions and a traffic study. The second application involved replacing a restaurant building at 181 Main Street with a retail/office building and two studio apartments. Discussions focused on zoning compliance, parking adequacy, building setbacks, and fire safety requirements. This application was also tabled pending resolution of setback issues. The commission also introduced the new town planner and discussed potential formation of subcommittees for affordable housing and implementation of the Plan of Conservation and Development (POCD). No votes on final approvals were taken; motions to table both site plan applications were passed to allow for further review and revisions.
