🏗️ Construction & Infrastructure 🚨 Public Safety Physical Infrastructure Emergency Response

The City of High Point's Prosperity, Livability, and Safety Committee met on September 17, 2026, to discuss two main agenda items. First, the committee reviewed and approved an interlocal agreement with the City of Greensboro and Guilford County for collaborative management, maintenance, and capital improvements of the Bicentennial Greenway. The agreement aims to establish consistent operations, coordinated maintenance, and a unified branding and marketing strategy for the greenway, which has suffered from infrastructure issues such as root damage, erosion, and aging footbridges. The committee emphasized prioritizing safety-related repairs and developing a long-term funding and maintenance plan. Second, the committee received an update on the implementation of the HOPE Team, a crisis intervention initiative designed to provide sustainable mental health and social support services in the community. The HOPE Team works alongside law enforcement to connect individuals in crisis to appropriate resources, reducing reliance on traditional law enforcement responses. The committee expressed strong support for the program and its early successes, including numerous calls for service and community outreach efforts. No additional votes were taken beyond the greenway agreement approval.
