Restorative Care Village Grand Opening Press Briefing 8/19/2026

The City of Los Angeles held a press briefing on August 19, 2026, to celebrate the grand opening of phases four and five of the Restorative Care Village at the Los Angeles General Medical Center campus. The new facilities include a 96-bed psychiatric subacute and acute care building, a 32-bed residential withdrawal management program, and a mental health urgent care center. The project, which began as a vision nearly a decade ago and was authorized by Supervisor Hilda Solis in 2017, was funded through a combination of state grants, including over $145 million in state-facilitated grants and federal funds such as the American Rescue Plan Act. The Department of Public Works delivered the project early and under budget, with significant local worker hire achievements. The briefing highlighted the collaborative efforts of multiple county departments, state partners, community organizations, and contractors such as Pankow Builders and Smith Group. The project aims to provide integrated, trauma-informed care and supportive housing to improve health outcomes and reduce reliance on emergency and justice systems.
