The Historic Preservation Commission of Glendale met on August 20, 2026, to review several key items related to historic property designations and preservation efforts. A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to the nomination of 1625 Campbell Street for inclusion in the Glendale Register of Historic Resources and approval of a Mills Act contract, which provides property tax incentives for historic preservation. The commission unanimously approved the nomination and Mills Act application, including a condition to remove non-original aluminum shutters within a year. The meeting also included a detailed discussion of the draft East-West Glendale Historic Resources Survey, which identified numerous potentially eligible historic properties and districts. Due to community feedback and requests for additional properties to be considered, the commission voted to continue the survey discussion to a future meeting to allow further review and consultant input. Updates were provided on recent city council approvals of other historic property nominations and Mills Act contracts. The meeting concluded with a retirement tribute to Jay, the principal preservation planner, acknowledging his contributions to the city's preservation efforts.
