The School Naming Subcommittee of Lowell, Massachusetts, convened on August 11, 2026, to discuss and approve naming proposals for two facilities at Lowell High School. The subcommittee reviewed the biographies and contributions of State Senator Edward J. Kennedy Jr. and former Mayor William J. Samaras, both of whom had significant impacts on the community and education in Lowell. After discussion and supportive remarks from various officials and community members, the subcommittee voted unanimously to recommend naming the new academic building after Senator Kennedy and the student center after Mayor Samaras. These recommendations will be forwarded to the full school committee for final approval in an upcoming meeting. No procurement or budgetary decisions were made during this session.
