The Titus County Texas Commissioners' Court held a regular meeting on August 10, 2026, where several procurement and budget-related matters were discussed and voted upon. Key procurement actions included the approval of a one-year extension with the option for two additional years for the county's fuel and diesel vendor contract, as well as the approval of interlocal agreements with the Sugar Hill Fire Department for a fire truck and with the city of Mount Pleasant for the SCBA field station. The court also approved labor-only assistance for chip sealing 0.7 miles of road in Winfield. Budget discussions were extensive, highlighting a $540,000 reduction in the general fund budget, significant jail repairs costing nearly $700,000, and the use of approximately $3.2 million from the fund balance to cover a deficit budget. The court approved the 2027 fiscal year budget with a 3 to 1 vote and set the tax rate at the voter approval rate of 0.4130 after a recorded vote. Additionally, salary orders for county officials were approved, and Senate Bill 22 funding applications for the sheriff's department and prosecutor's office were unanimously approved. The sheriff also requested and received approval to restructure the STEP program within his existing budget to provide more frequent pay increases and adjust supervisory pay scales.
