The Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) held an English Faculty Professional Development session on April 4, 2025, focused on co-requisite course planning and implementation for English composition. Faculty from various institutions discussed challenges and strategies related to co-requisite models, including stigma reduction, embedded tutoring, online and hybrid course delivery, and scaffolding curriculum. The session included breakout discussions on resource needs such as best practices for online co-requisites, scheduling, classroom space, and data management. Policy clarifications were provided regarding developmental reading courses, noting that standalone developmental reading can be offered but not as a prerequisite to English Composition I, and such courses are not credit-bearing toward graduation. The session concluded with plans for ongoing professional development, including a soft launch of co-requisite support in fall 2025, future communities of practice, and train-the-trainer workshops in October 2025 to support faculty and institutional efforts.
