Chestnut Avenue Public Meeting - Division of Engineering

The City of Vineland held a public meeting on August 6, 2026, to discuss the Chestnut Avenue improvement project led by the Division of Engineering. The project, funded in part by a $20 million federal grant through the Safe Streets for All (SS4A) program and a 20% city match, is currently in the design phase with Penoni Associates and Greenman Peterson Inc. as primary engineering consultants. The project scope includes converting the existing four-lane highway into a four-lane thoroughfare with dedicated left turn lanes, installing ADA-compliant sidewalks and an 8-foot shared-use path for bicycles and pedestrians, upgrading lighting and stormwater infrastructure, and optimizing traffic signals. Construction is anticipated to begin in June 2027 with an estimated duration of about 300 days. Public comments were solicited, and several community concerns were addressed, including pedestrian safety, drainage and flooding issues, utility coordination, and traffic signal timing. The project aims to improve safety, reduce crashes, and enhance pedestrian and bicycle accommodations along the 2.25-mile corridor of Chestnut Avenue.
