The City of Auburn, Maine School Committee held a workshop and meeting on August 5, 2026, focusing primarily on budget and capital improvement projects. The committee approved updates to the FY 2026 CIP bond budget to include five additional maintenance projects: replacement of a backup water pump at Auburn Middle School, installation of a greenhouse at Edward Little High School (ELHS), fire alarm upgrades at Fairview, and boiler and compressor repairs at Park Avenue. These projects were funded by reallocating savings from other bond projects. Additionally, the committee authorized up to $25,000 from the ELHS Capital Reserve Fund to enlarge a geothermal system hatch to facilitate removal and repair of modular units, addressing issues with refrigerant regulations and system maintenance. The discussion highlighted the importance of maintaining the geothermal system and the need to monitor capital reserve funding for future repairs. Motions for both budget updates and the capital reserve expenditure were approved unanimously.
