Elkhart County Live Meeting

The Elkhart County Board of Commissioners held a public meeting on May 18, 2026, addressing multiple zoning and planning matters, including several rezoning requests from manufacturing or residential zones to agricultural zones to accommodate residential and small farm uses. The board approved amendments to a planned development district to allow additional signage and adopted new restrictions on storage containers to address neighbor concerns. The meeting also included several budget and appropriation approvals related to infrastructure projects, such as water model studies funded partially by TIF funds, bridge replacements and maintenance funded by local and state grants, and road paving and chip seal projects funded by wheel tax and motor vehicle highway funds. Independent contractor agreements were approved for consulting and septic services related to upcoming county projects. Notably, a $3 million appropriation reduction for a County Road 617 improvement TIF was approved with plans to reallocate funds to other highway projects. The board unanimously approved all motions related to spending, contracts, and zoning changes during the session.
