The South Huntington Union Free School District Board of Education held its first meeting of the new fiscal year on July 8, 2026, at the Walwan High School Performing Arts Center. Key procurement-related discussions included approval of school nutrition bids as part of a cooperative purchasing agreement with approximately 50 Long Island school districts to leverage buying power and reduce costs. The board approved an RFP contract with Twin County Driving School for the in-car portion of driver education. They also approved a $7,600 rental agreement with the Huntington YMCA for the district swim team's pool use from September to March. Additionally, the board authorized continued participation in a statewide data privacy risk assessment operations center to streamline contracting and ensure compliance with New York State Education Law 2D for photography vendors. Several out-of-district student placements and a contract with a school aid specialist to maximize Medicaid revenue were approved. The board also discussed ongoing capital improvement projects including security hardware installation, boiler replacements, and traffic light installation, as well as the adoption of updated purchasing and facilities use policies. The meeting included the annual public hearing on the district-wide safety plan and adoption of various board policies related to student safety and conduct. No votes opposed procurement items, and the board set future meeting dates and discussed community engagement efforts related to district facilities.
