The Eagle Pass Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Policy Board met on July 8, 2026, to discuss and take action on transportation planning and project funding for the region's 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). The meeting focused heavily on the evaluation and scoring of proposed transportation projects, including roadway illumination, operational improvements, and transit facilities. Ten projects, primarily submitted by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and deemed eligible and technically scored, were recommended for inclusion in the MTP and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The board discussed the financial constraints, project readiness, and the ability to amend the plan quarterly to add or reprioritize projects. The MPO anticipates approximately $65 million in Category 2 funding over 25 years to support these projects. The board approved moving forward with the recommended projects and emphasized ongoing coordination with TxDOT for project development and cost estimation. Additionally, the board approved the name "Mobility for All" for the MPO's 2050 plan and discussed the Fiscal Year 2027 Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP), which outlines the MPO's budget and planning activities, including a slight increase for office rent. The meeting underscored the importance of technical data-driven project ranking while allowing board discretion for prioritization and highlighted the need for continued collaboration among local entities and TxDOT to advance transportation projects.
