BOE & Commission Public Meetings - July 8, 2026

The Utah County Government held a combined Board of Equalization and Commission meeting on July 8, 2026. The Board of Equalization approved classification changes for residential properties. The Commission meeting included recognition of an employee of the month and public comments on various issues. A significant portion of the meeting focused on a proposed ordinance amendment related to electrical power transmission lines rated at 345 kV and above. The amendment sought to change the permitting process from conditional use permits (CUP) to permitted use to streamline the approval process for large transmission lines, addressing challenges with parcel-by-parcel CUP requirements. Extensive public testimony was heard, with concerns raised about property rights, agricultural protection areas, noise, visual impacts, and the proposed transmission line route. The Commission discussed and ultimately approved the ordinance amendment with added provisions including a setback of 135 feet from residential dwellings, a location priority favoring placement adjacent to property lines, and allowances for property owner consent to reduce setbacks. The amendment also incorporated noise standards and notice requirements to protect landowners. The decision aimed to balance the need for infrastructure development with property owner protections while avoiding lengthy and costly CUP processes and potential condemnation proceedings. No bond issuance was approved in relation to capital improvement projects discussed earlier in the meeting.
