The City of Lakeville Planning Commission held a meeting on June 25, 2026, which included three public hearings primarily focused on conditional use permits (CUPs) for residential accessory structures and a religious institution. The commission approved a CUP for Michael Mo to add a third stall garage and remodel his home, exceeding the accessory building square footage limit with staff stipulations. Another CUP was approved for Heidi Knight to build a single-family home with an attached garage and a detached accessory building exceeding size and height limits, also subject to conditions. The most extensive discussion centered on the Alhadi Association's application for a CUP to establish a mosque in a single-family residential district. The commission reviewed site plans, parking provisions exceeding minimum requirements, stormwater management, lighting, and neighborhood impact concerns including traffic, noise, and environmental effects. Numerous public comments both supporting and opposing the mosque were heard. Staff addressed questions on traffic, parking, stormwater, demolition, and utility easements. After thorough deliberation, the commission voted to recommend city council approval of the mosque CUP with seven stipulations. These decisions will be considered by the city council at their July 6, 2026 meeting.
