Weslaco UDO & Impact Fee Webinar

The City of Weslaco held an informational webinar on June 15, 2026, to discuss updates to the city's Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) and the potential adoption of impact fees. Consultants from Raf Telis presented the modernization and consolidation of land use ordinances into the UDO, which aligns with the city's 2040 comprehensive plan and complies with recent Texas state laws. The UDO aims to simplify development regulations and improve clarity for developers, residents, and city staff. Additionally, the webinar covered the introduction of impact fees as a funding mechanism to ensure that new development pays for the necessary infrastructure improvements, such as water and sewer capacity, without burdening existing residents through taxes. The impact fees would be collected from developers or builders and used exclusively for new infrastructure projects identified in a 10-year capital improvement plan. The process includes oversight by the city's Capital Improvement Advisory Committee (KAYAK) and public hearings before final adoption by the city commission. The webinar concluded with information on how residents can participate in upcoming public hearings and submit comments or questions.
