The City of Lewisville Zoning Commission held a meeting on May 19, 2026, to discuss amendments to the unified development code (UDC) related to data centers. The commission considered adding a new definition for data centers, requiring special use permits (SUPs) for new data centers in certain industrial zoning districts, and updating parking standards. This was prompted by the growing demand for data centers and their distinct environmental and operational impacts compared to traditional warehouses. Public comments included requests to grandfather existing data centers and those in the permit process to avoid disruption of ongoing operations and expansions. The commission voted to recommend approval of the UDC amendments, with one abstention. Additionally, the commission reviewed a special use permit request for a communication antenna, which was also recommended for approval. Both items will be considered by the city council in a subsequent public hearing scheduled for June 15, 2026.
