Community Services - 5/26/2026 - Agenda Item D2 - Agreement with Oxnard School District

The City of Oxnard Community Services Committee discussed and recommended approval of a one-year agreement with the Oxnard School District to continue operating the afterschool education and safety program. The contract is valued at up to $2,500,000, with the city providing an in-kind match of $130,000. Due to statewide and local budget constraints, the funding for the program was reduced from $4,470,000 to $2,500,000, resulting in operational changes including elimination of the literacy component, reduction of full-time city positions by 11, and a decrease in extra help staff from approximately 100 to 80. Despite these reductions, the program will continue to offer enrichment activities, youth development opportunities, and safe afterschool environments. The partnership supports over a thousand volunteer hours and ongoing professional development for staff.
