Mayor Gloria, Community HousingWorks Break Ground on Affordable Housing Development in Serra Mesa

This City of San Diego event on April 14, 2026, marked the groundbreaking of the Serra Mesa affordable housing development led by Community Housing Works (CHW). The project will create 59 affordable homes, including 30 units dedicated to veterans supported by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs through supportive housing vouchers. The San Diego Housing Commission awarded a $2.5 million loan to support the development, which will maintain affordability for 55 years. Capital One and National Equity Fund are key financial partners providing construction lending and tax credit equity, respectively. City officials, including Mayor Todd Gloria, emphasized the importance of transforming a long-vacant former library site into affordable housing to address homelessness and housing affordability. The project highlights collaboration among city agencies, nonprofit developers, financial institutions, and federal partners to deliver supportive housing with integrated services for vulnerable populations, particularly veterans.
