State of the City 2024

The City of Desert Hot Springs held its 2024 State of the City event on October 3, 2024, featuring presentations from city officials, business leaders, and community partners. Key procurement and infrastructure topics included the awarding of contracts for capital improvement projects such as the $8.5 million Safety Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP) for Highway 62 and Pearson, and the Henda Street 2 Improvement Project with construction slated to begin in early 2025. The city also highlighted investments in public safety infrastructure, including the construction of a new fire station (Station 98) and acquisition of new fire equipment. Additionally, the city is installing 80 electric vehicle charging stations funded by grants to support sustainability goals. Economic development efforts were emphasized with the near completion of a 60,000 square foot Amazon middle-mile warehouse expected to create approximately 1,400 jobs, alongside plans for a million square foot Desert Gateway warehouse. The city also discussed the Spa Revitalization Program funded by a $1 per day fee on spa users, which has raised $155,000 to support youth programs. Other procurement-related initiatives included the awarding of a $658,000 contract for the demolition and rebuilding of a park restroom funded through Community Development Block Grants and development impact fees. The city continues to focus on diversifying its economy, improving infrastructure, and supporting local businesses through grant programs and strategic partnerships.
