State & Local
The CharmTV Citizens' Hub convened the Sisson Street Task Force meeting on March 7, 2026, to discuss the future of the Citizen Street (CIS) sanitation facility and related citywide waste management infrastructure. The task force reviewed extensive public feedback—nearly 400 emails—and deliberated on three main options: keeping CIS open with modifications, relocating CIS, or closing it after ensuring alternative facilities are operational. Key procurement-related discussions focused on capital improvement projects at other sanitation sites such as Reed Bird and Bullies Lane, and the need for budget allocations to support expanded bulk trash collection, hazardous waste relocation, and enhanced public education to meet zero waste goals. The task force emphasized that CIS closure would be contingent upon meeting several conditions, including the opening of upgraded facilities, improved recycling programs at York Road, legislative changes for multifamily recycling, and a clear timeline for reducing dependence on CIS. They also discussed the importance of accountability, proposing that the Sustainability Commission and City Council oversee DPW's progress. No final vote was taken, but there was consensus to eliminate the relocation option and focus on either improving CIS or transitioning services with strict conditions. The task force plans to finalize recommendations with defined timelines and metrics, ensuring transparency and community involvement in future procurement and capital planning efforts.
