The City of Fort Lauderdale Historic Preservation Board met on November 2, 2026. The board deferred, by a 6–0 vote, case UDPHP26011, an application to replace an existing shingle roof on a Sailboat Bend home with synthetic barrel tile. Staff said the barrel-tile profile was inconsistent with the home’s minimal traditional architecture, while the applicant cited durability, hurricane resistance, and an estimated $30,000 investment. The applicant will work with staff and may submit revised materials by November 16 for consideration at a later meeting. No public procurement, contract award, or government spending action was identified.
The board approved case UDPHP26013 for a new two-story single-family home at 401 SW 14th Avenue, subject to conditions covering separate approval for certain fencing or gates, notification and work stoppage if archaeological materials or human remains are found, and compliance with building, zoning, and other city requirements. The city attorney also provided board training on the board’s role, ethics and conflicts of interest, sunshine and public-records requirements, and Senate Bill 1134 concerning local government actions and DEI-related activities.
