The Wilson County Education Committee met on November 5, 2026. The Director of Schools presented a budget amendment that the committee approved by motion and vote. It included moving $3,000 from other charges to travel for employees providing SOAR tutoring at schools; a state-directed transfer for the 2026 summer learning camp; and moving $3,000 from supplies and materials to other charges for refreshments at academic and committee meetings. The amendment also moved $50,000 in unspent funds to support two part-time instructional coaches who would work with teachers. No contract award or vendor selection was presented.
Members discussed ongoing school-bus-driver shortages, recruitment and compensation options, and the district’s past use of First Student; no outsourcing or purchasing decision was made. A member proposed assessing school traffic concerns, ranking potential fixes, and working with county planners to estimate costs. Possible work could include sidewalks or added asphalt, with some projects potentially costing $10,000–$20,000, but no study, funding, or construction authorization was approved.
