The City of Lakewood’s American Lake Lake Management District Committee met on November 5, 2026, to review 2027 lake-management work and funding. Staff estimated at least $55,000 would be available for 2027, and approximately $58,000 if all assessments are paid; the discussion also referenced Department of Ecology grant reimbursement. The committee approved an amended work plan by voice vote, adding spring and summer filamentous-algae treatment (budgeted at $6,500) and a roughly $3,000 placeholder for treatment of other nuisance aquatic plants. The proposed treatments would use peroxygen in April and, if needed during milfoil treatment, Hydrothol 191. Staff said these additions require corresponding changes to the aquatic pesticide permit and planned to develop those changes for further board consideration.
Members discussed contractor procurement but made no new vendor award. Aquatechnics, the current contractor, provided the estimated unit prices for the proposed work, which staff said could be added to its existing competitively awarded contract. The committee favored using the existing contractor for 2027 as the most practical option; the city attorney will review the contract and applicable bidding requirements, while future competitive bidding or use of multiple contractors remains under consideration. A vendor representative from Molear proposed nanobubble technology, but no purchase or pilot was approved. A proposal for a volunteer ecological-monitoring subcommittee was deferred until written details are available. The committee also received an update on draft interlocal agreements with JBLM and the VA, including questions about reimbursement and advance approval of costs.
