The City of Ashland Historic Preservation Advisory Committee met on September 2, 2026. A member of the public raised concerns about a proposed bike trail on Lithia Park’s east hillside, citing the park’s historic status and recommending review of cultural and historic resources by the State Historic Preservation Office. The committee had insufficient information to take action; staff said they would look into whether the proposal falls within the committee’s purview and include the submitted materials in a future packet. Members also discussed meeting frequency, balancing workload and staff time with the need to review time-sensitive land-use applications, and received an update on proposed zoning-code changes intended to support housing affordability. No procurement activity was identified.
The committee unanimously approved, subject to staff conditions, a site-design application for interior and exterior renovations at the historic Steve H. Royal Rentals at 161 B Street. The proposal includes facade and window changes and a new exterior stairway. Staff will issue the decision to the applicant and neighboring property owners; the applicant may then proceed with permit review. No contract award, vendor selection, or spending authorization was discussed.
