Austin ISD Board of Trustees information session, November 5, 2026: The superintendent and CFO reported that the FY 2026–27 budget remains on track, with a projected 15.1% fund balance by June 2027, including $31 million in reductions and $60 million in property monetizations; the projection excludes proceeds from a possible Rosedale sale. Trustees requested a clearer accounting of bond funds for the Oak Springs/Blackshear consolidation, including the nearly $5 million approved for Blackshear in the 2022 bond. Staff committed to prepare a community and board summary, including the allocation and use of those funds, within roughly two weeks. During the agenda preview, a trustee also asked staff to reconcile warehouse-storage figures shown as approximately $456,000 and $1 million; staff clarified the item is bond-funded and agreed to follow up. The board discussed a group health benefits consulting services item arising from an RFQ process, noting it supports the district’s existing self-funded plan and is not a change to employee premiums.

Trustees discussed a proposed AI policy expected to come to the November 12 voting meeting. The draft includes procurement and vendor requirements addressing matters such as student-data use and ownership, AI-training restrictions, interoperability, and safety; trustees requested adding parent representation and conflict-of-interest provisions to the advisory committee. No policy was adopted at this session. A separate UT interlocal agreement for OnRamps courses was also previewed: staff cited $336,650 in projected costs, within a $550,000 cap, and a trustee requested campus- and student-level participation and credit-outcome data before deciding on the item. The board also heard that initial special-education evaluations receive $1,000 in state funding each, while typical evaluation costs are estimated at $2,500–$4,000; the district reported reducing reliance on outside contractors. No procurement awards or spending votes occurred during this information session.
