During the April 6, 2026, Phenix City Council meeting, staff discussed local employment and economic development, reporting 71 current openings in Phenix City and Russell County, 94 additional openings associated with manufacturers and an expansion, and about 1,400 available jobs across finance and insurance. Staff said an industrial site’s survey was complete, with geotechnical and environmental work underway ahead of further site development. The presentation also reviewed infrastructure and parks projects: 635 water leaks repaired since December 2024, 300 linear feet of Mill Creek piping replaced, and two water transmission lines in design. In 2025, the city repaved more than 13 miles of roads at a reported cost of over $2.7 million.
Staff gave updates on park and development work, including the Miracle Field (fencing was expected to begin that week, with the playing surface dependent on the manufacturer), pickleball-area amenities, and the Lively District, which was nearing the construction phase. The Rosemont Park update was pending cost estimates for a water line and sprinkler system. A retail-development MOU approved several weeks earlier was referenced, but this segment identified no new contract awards, vendor selections, procurement approvals, or spending motions.
