The Lexington Ethics Commission met on November 5, 2026, in open session. It approved the minutes of August 19 and September 10, 2026, and discussed advisory opinion AO 2026-003, requested by a commercial real-estate broker serving on the Board of Adjustment. The commission directed staff to draft an opinion addressing when business or family relationships may require recusal; the opinion will return for review at a later meeting. The commission also considered an open-records request for its ten most recent confidential advisory opinions: seven were released in full and three with redactions. Members voted to add a disclosure notice to the advisory-opinion request form and agreed to review the legal basis and practices of other ethics commissions before deciding on future handling; the law department was asked not to disclose further opinions until that review.
Members reviewed the annual financial-interest disclosure process and discussed revisions to clarify ongoing disclosure obligations, improve guidance for filers, and consider a short explanatory FAQ. A subcommittee will continue revising the form. The commission also began considering whether additional boards, commissions, or government positions should be required to file disclosures under the Ethics Act; it left current requirements unchanged while staff gathers legal and policy information. Members approved the proposed 2027 meeting dates, with meetings set for 6 p.m. virtually and public notice to indicate dates may change. No procurement activity, contract awards, or spending decisions were identified.
