The Bethlehem Area School District’s November 5, 2026, District Design Community Input Meeting at the YMCA gathered public feedback for an enrollment, building-utilization, and boundary study conducted by Steps to Achieve, whose consultant was hired by the district. The study will examine enrollment projections, the use and condition of the district’s 22 schools, and possible future scenarios. Reported enrollment was 12,044 in 2026, down 12.9% from 2013–14; presenters also noted increased charter-school enrollment. No school closures, boundary changes, or other decisions have been selected. Community input and further analysis will inform scenarios for additional public discussion before review by the school board.
Participants emphasized academic programs, keeping neighborhoods together, nearby and walkable schools, safe and well-maintained facilities, and appropriate class sizes. Questions and comments focused on transportation costs and travel times, effects on attendance and student activities, the reasons for proposed changes, and transparent comparisons of long-term costs—such as renovation versus new construction—and effects on taxpayers. The consultant said cost and class size would be considered and that questions raised would be compiled for district responses. No procurement action, contract award, budget allocation, motion, or vote was reported.
