The November 4, 2026 Stevens Point Board of Park Commissioners meeting approved, by motion, a request from the Daughters of the American Revolution to attach a 20-by-20-inch Revolutionary War recognition plaque to the back of the existing Pulaski monument at McGlaughlin Park, subject to further review by the Plan Commission and Common Council. No contract awards or bid approvals were made by the Board. Staff reported that the Common Council had approved the city capital budget, including $250,000 for a park capital project: $50,000 in city funding (split between parkland-development fees and borrowing) and the balance to be raised privately. A separate $200,000 playground project was also described. Other approved capital items included a cooperative shoreline conditions and concept-planning project, fleet purchases of a utility truck and front-end loader, and a city camera/fiber project serving parks. The shoreline work is intended to assess erosion, safety, access, and possible boat-slip arrangements; no consultant or vendor had yet been selected.

Staff reported that a capital-funded pool heater had been secured for spring installation, along with ongoing pool repairs and facility maintenance. A possible future aquatic facility—estimated at $12 million in current financial-planning materials—remains under discussion, not an approved commitment; staff plans further analysis and public discussion, including consideration of community partnerships. The department also reported 157 fall tree plantings supported by a Wisconsin DNR/federal grant and reviewed its $400,000 emerald ash borer management allocation, with about $20,000 remaining after the ten-year effort. The city’s stadium project remained unfinished; the contractor was accruing $500 per day in liquidated damages, totaling about $20,000 at the time of the meeting. Staff said pool admission prices are not expected to rise next year, though private rental fees may increase. Commissioners also discussed including material and color-matching requirements in future masonry work specifications.
