The Kenner City Council meeting was held November 5, 2026. The mayor reported that the city had secured a $20 million Economic Development Administration grant for wastewater work, with the grant covering the full cost and no local match required. The finance director reported first-quarter general fund revenues about $3 million above allocation and operating expenses about $2.7 million below allocation; she agreed to provide quarterly updates and circulate the financial statements. The city is also reviewing garbage service charges in light of contract CPI increases. The council unanimously approved procurement and contract items, including a $100,000 bid with Vehicle Parts and Equipment Inc. for Kenner Police Department vehicle accessories, an emergency $37,872.96 replacement of wastewater-treatment-plant bar-screen chains by Zima Corporation, and agreements for Motorola radios, Messina’s concession service, and Premium Parking’s management of the civic center parking. The Premium Parking agreement was amended to a one-year term with no automatic renewals or extensions, and the latest service agreement was ordered attached.
Other approved contract actions included a 71-day time extension for LA Contracting Enterprise’s sewer lift-station replacement project and acceptance of the completed Coleman Roofing work at the Fleet Management Center. First-reading items—not final approvals—included a $33,600 police recruiting campaign, a $314,932 professional-services agreement for a multi-use path, a $31,258.30 Veterans Boulevard change order, and a $313,543.32 net decrease on the Fire Station 38 project; additional proposed purchasing and capital items covered flooring, emergency meals, pumps, fire-station design, and roofing. Other council actions included deferring a proposed 2% annual firefighter salary-increase ordinance for one meeting and supporting reinstatement of a youth baseball all-star program. The council also approved acceptance of four donated works of art and recognized private support for children’s literacy and community improvements.
