The City of Nisswa Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission meeting was held November 5, 2026. The commission reviewed the developing Nisswa City Park playground and parking-lot plans, including proposed equipment changes, accessible pathways, drainage, vegetation, and possible relocation of the irrigation line and basketball court. Staff reported that Flagship would provide updated design and pricing for the December meeting. The city is seeking an additional $25,000 grant for youth fitness and outdoor recreation; if awarded, it would support added equipment rather than reduce the city’s contribution. The project budget includes allowances of $72,000 for concrete and $20,000 for site preparation, excavation, and related work, but costs for some changes remain unknown. No procurement award or purchase was approved. Staff said equipment cannot be purchased until the city receives a DNR contract; the target is to finalize the design by February and order in March, though grant timing could affect the schedule.
Commissioners also discussed donations and sponsorships for park projects. The city has no naming-rights policy; donations are accepted by City Council resolution, and a donation for this project would reduce the city’s contribution. Members supported developing clearer guidance for future projects, potentially including pickleball and hockey, but took no policy action. Staff said the community center agreement had been sent to the League of Minnesota Cities for legal review, with the goal of finalizing it through Council before year-end. The commission voted to recommend reappointing a member for a second term; no other spending-related motions or approvals were reported.
