The Michigan City Tree Board meeting on November 4, 2026, reviewed upcoming tree-care procurements. The city forester reported that three bid packages—for tree removal, planting, and watering—were under review, with Board of Works consideration targeted for November 16. If approved, they would be advertised for about four weeks; bids were expected by the January 11 meeting, with contractor selection anticipated later in January. Funding was reported to be available, subject to confirming adequate funds for watering, including trees planned for spring 2027. The board also discussed a proposed city watering-truck setup, but no purchase decision was made. A separate U.S. Forest Service grant application was missed because of a submission deadline/time-zone issue; the planned work had included removing 45 trees and planting 90 native trees, and staff intend to resubmit next year. Dogwood Hills was identified as the contractor for a prior grant-funded planting of 88 trees at Trail Creek.
The board approved a $32 reimbursement for a table at the LaPorte County Master Gardener event on April 3, and approved the secretary-treasurer’s report and claims. An invoice from Great Lakes Urban Forestry for Washington Park tree-walk materials had been submitted to the city but was still awaiting approval/payment. The board also confirmed that DNR seedlings for 2027 had been ordered; billing is due on delivery. No new contract award was made at this meeting.
