The Beaufort County Airports Board meeting on November 5, 2026, received updates on airport construction and funding. At Hilton Head Airport, the pedestrian walkway is in design and pre-construction planning with previously selected contractor Nick’s Construction; the bistro design for concessionaire Tailwind was being incorporated into drawings, with construction anticipated to begin in December; and construction began on the service-animal relief area. Airfield drainage work was complete pending closeout. At Beaufort Executive Airport, hangar-site work was about 98% complete, while the transient hangar and a separate project were progressing in design and being paid for with ARPA funds. Taxiway extension design and FAA review of a proposed AWOS location remained underway.

The board approved three South Carolina Aeronautics Commission entitlement grants, including discussion of a leakage-and-retention study to inform airline and marketing strategy, and approved the airports’ capital improvement program project list. The CIP was presented as a planning outlook, not a commitment to spend, and may be revised with FAA input. The director said airport projects were explicitly excluded from the county penny-tax funding discussed. No grant or contract amounts were stated. Other discussion included a possible board orientation and the county’s ongoing finance and procurement staffing changes; no related purchasing action was reported.
