Body

City of Sacramento

Date

Jurisdiction

State & Local

The City of Sacramento Law and Legislation Committee met on December 3, 2019. The committee unanimously advanced a hotel-worker protection ordinance, with an amendment setting its implementation date six months after City Council passage. The ordinance would require panic buttons for hotel housekeepers, encourage written notice of sexual-harassment protections, and apply to hotels, motels, and similar businesses regardless of room count. Staff said fire-prevention officers could check compliance during inspections and that administrative penalties may be available for violations. No contract award, purchasing decision, or local spending allocation was identified.

The committee also unanimously approved moving forward with the proposed 2020 legislative platform after discussing advocacy priorities including housing and homelessness, water, transportation, infrastructure, child care, and coordination among regional lobbyists. Lobbyists cited more than $1 billion in state homelessness funding and $650 million for housing incentives, as well as water-bond proposals; these were state-level context, not Sacramento procurement actions. The committee then heard public comment and began discussion of updated historic-district surveys and infill guidelines intended to clarify development review and support housing, but the transcript ends before any committee action on that item. No procurement activity was identified.
