Broward County Public Schools held a School Board Workshop on November 4, 2026, to review school-consolidation and repurposing proposals and the FY 2026–27 budget. The Boundary Advisory Committee’s recommendations covered consolidations and grade-configuration changes across multiple schools; depending on the options ultimately selected, staff estimated annual recurring savings of approximately $19.6 million to $22.4 million and removal of just over 9,000 student stations. Board members discussed the proposals and generally gave staff direction to develop the committee’s recommendations for the scheduled December 15 rulemaking meeting; no final consolidation decisions were made at this workshop. The board also discussed alternatives, including a possible three-year enrollment-recovery pilot and requests to keep certain schools open for further partnership review. Parkway Middle School’s campus overhaul was described as a $40 million–$50 million project.
For facilities potentially selected for repurposing, staff said appraisals are being ordered and the district is procuring an industry consultant to assess highest-and-best uses; a commercial realtor is also reviewing district properties and the district has created a process for receiving letters of interest. Public commenters described possible school and municipal partnerships, including a Miami-Dade example involving a 30-year lease and approximately $1 million in annual rent, but no Broward property award or lease was approved. The separate budget briefing reported a projected $156 million fund balance, including a 3.5% reserve, and a $250 million tax-anticipation note for cash-flow management. The board also requested follow-up on potential impacts of Amendment 3 on municipal and aftercare services and discussed a proposed 90-day financial plan; no procurement award or spending motion was approved.
