The Lafayette Parish School System Board Insurance Committee met November 4, 2026. It approved the October 7 meeting minutes and received Gallagher Benefit Services’ financial and service update on the group health plan through September. Year-to-date medical claims were trending down while pharmacy costs rose; combined medical and pharmacy claims were reported at about $38 million, compared with about $41 million for the same period in 2025, and pharmacy represented 40% of plan costs versus 25% a year earlier. The presentation also reviewed rebates, stop-loss coverage, budget tracking, claims administration, and provider-network discounts, including the Varity network’s approximately 70% discount performance. No contract award or new purchasing approval was made.
Members discussed allowing the plan year to close and claims to finish processing, then pursuing an independent, outside review of plan-document compliance and vendor claims and service performance, potentially beginning in March 2027; this was discussed as a follow-up, not approved by formal vote. The committee also reviewed the board’s existing Medicare Part B enrollment requirement, including 21 people reportedly affected who lack Medicare Part A, and heard an estimate that waiving Part B for them could add roughly $100,000 in annual claims. Members asked staff and Gallagher to examine the affected group and financial implications and return with more information. No other spending or procurement action was identified.
