The Iberia Parish Council and committee meetings were held November 4, 2026. The council unanimously approved a resolution allocating $15,612,784.07 from Sales Tax District No. 1’s 2026 bond proceeds for parish road improvements, after refunding $13,973,340.93 in outstanding 2024 bonds and paying $163,875 in issuance costs. The bid schedule was not yet established; officials said roads must first be evaluated and cost estimates prepared. A council member urged the administration to confirm engineering firms can handle the project volume without delaying work. The council also unanimously approved a $41,000 Airport Authority budget adjustment to purchase property at 70–717 Hangar Drive in New Iberia, funded from the publicity line item. The consent agenda included substantial completion of the US Highway 90 Sewer Improvements Project, completed by Southern Structures LLC and recommended by Staples Engineering and Consultants LLC, and adoption of the parish’s multi-jurisdiction hazard mitigation plan, which is required for eligibility for federal mitigation funds.
The council discussed a proposed resolution barring parish-operated departments from seeking or obtaining insurance benefits beyond the parish group plans. The communications district objected that the wording could prevent it from soliciting competing quotes and requesting a waiver; members raised cost, coverage, and governance concerns. The transcript does not show a vote on that resolution. In other action, the council approved adding a capital project and capital accountant position to the Finance Department’s staffing chart, citing the growing workload of grants and capital projects; a proposed airport operations manager position did not pass. The parish president also reported approximately $62 million in road work anticipated through parish road taxes and state capital outlay, and described plans to identify flood-mitigation priorities for pursuing federal funding.
